Wilda Sue Edwards

“Susie” Edwards passed from this life on Saturday February 21st, 2015 with her loving husband of 54 years by her side.

She was born Wilda Sue Russell to George and Della Russell in Covington, OK on December 1st, 1944. Sue then grew up in Oklahoma City attending Crooked Oak schools where she met the love of her life, Sam Edwards. Sue and Sam eloped as fast as they could, marrying in Poteau, OK on June 19th 1961 for a cost of five dollars. The two then spent the next 54 years together in every way, as best friends, parents, business partners and more.

Sue worked at Bellco in Oklahoma City before she and Sam founded Sam’s Optical of Oklahoma City in 1980. As Sue worked tirelessly helping her husband build their business, she also raised and took care of her family, who true to Sam and Sue remain very close to this day. First came Sammy Joe, then Shelly, and finally Scott. Working, caring for her children, and cooking Sunday dinner for her extended family, friends and anyone else who stopped in, Sue was an example of selflessness. She found joy in doing for others. Her compassion and love for her family was immeasurable.

Sue also enjoyed gardening, cooking, OU football, “playing the slots” with Sam and participating in NFL fantasy leagues with family…which she quite often won!

She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother George, and her two sisters, Weta and Wilma.

Survivors include Sue’s husband Sam, two sons Sammy Joe of Oklahoma City and Scott and wife Tirisa of Mustang, her daughter Shelly also of Mustang, and five grandchildren, Tyler, Sarah, Paige, Bryce and Brett. She is also survived by her sister Wanda Braley and brother Joe Russell, many loving nieces and nephews, and many friends and employees as well that considered Sue family.

Sue will forever be “Sam’s Copilot in Life”.

A Memorial service will be held on Wednesday, February 25th at 2:00pm at The Chapel of The Good Shepherd, under the direction of McNeil’s Funeral Service.
