“Virgil P. Bentley, 84, of 626 Yeoman St., Washington Court House, died 5:10 a.m. Thursday, July 25, 2002, in Fayette County Memorial Hospital. He was born on May 6, 1918, in Morgan County, Ky., to George Washington and Nora (Williams) Bentley. On March 2, 1941, he married the former Doris (Tillis) Bentley who survives. Also surviving are a son, Preston (Susie) Bentley, Washington C. H.; a brother, Ray Bentley, Jeffersonville, Ohio; sisters, Ruby Allen, Springfield, Ohio, Fern and Virgil Workman, of Washington C. H.; four grandchildren, Brandon of Chillicothe, Preston of Washington C. H., Lori of Delaware and Becca of Washington C. H.; a brother and sister-in-law, Robert and Mary Tillis; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, Franklin, William Siegle, Thurman and James V. Bentley; and a sister, Ruth Mossman. Mr. Bentley spent most of his life in Fayette County. He graduated from Jeffersonville High School in 1938, where he played basketball four years, earning First Team All Ohio in Class B. He led the state in scoring in 1938 and was Player of the Year in Class B. Virgil loved animals, he would bring home stray cats and dogs. He enjoyed fishing, baseball and basketball. He was inducted into the Jeffersonville High School Hall of Fame in June 1991, at the Jeffersonville Alumni Banquet. He retired in 1978 as a sales representative with Moorman Feed Company of Quincy, Ill., with 31 years of service. Funeral service will be held 1:30 p.m. Monday, July 29, 2002, in Morrow Funeral Home, Washington C. H., with Danny Dodds of South Side Church of Christ officiating. Burial will follow in Washington Cemetery,"
