Harvey Dunham, son of Theodore and Sophia Dunham, was born on a farm in York township, Steuben county, Indiana, December 17, 1886. His early life was spent on the farm, learning to do all kinds of farm labor and the rearing and care of all kinds of livestock. This early training was a great help to him in the years to come, as general farming was his chief occupation in after years.
As a little boy, he was quick and active in his movements, and learned to handle a team with great skill and precision, far beyond his years.
Harvey was a favorite with his school mates and oftentimes earned commendable compliments from his teacher.
He was well received in social circles, taking an active part in community gatherings. In his early manhood he attended the tabernacle at Angola, Ind., confessed his faith in Christ, was baptized and received in the Christian church of Angola.
He was married to Maud Fradenburg February 26, 1915. To this union was born four children, three of whom died in infancy.
Last Tuesday morning. January 4, 1927, the community was great1y shocked and grieved to hear of his sudden and accidental death, while in the act of hauling a load of logs from the woods on his father's farm and old home, where he was born, forty years and eighteen days ago.
Harve, as he was familiarly known, leaves to mourn his sudden death, his wife and Virginia, a sweet little girl of six years; a father, mother, two brothers, Reuben, of Battle Creek, Mich., and Roscoe of Metz; one sister, Mrs. Edna Robinett, also of Metz. An older sister, Ethel, died nearly twenty-two years ago. Besides, a host of other relatives and friends survive.
It is in loving, not in being loved,
The heart is blessed;
It is in giving , not in seeking gifts,
We find our guest.
If then art hungry, lacking heavenly bread
Give hope and cheer.
If then art sad and woudst be comforted,
Stay sorrows tear.
Whatever be thy longing or thy need,
That do thou give
For shall thy soul be fed, and then, indeed
Shall truly live.
Funeral services were conducted at South Scott Christian church on January 6, at 2 p.m. by Elder J.O. Rose and the burial was in South Scott cemetery.
