Lewis Morgrage STARK, b. 8 Jan 1908; died 28 Jun 2004 Bedford NH; member of the American Antiquarian Society in October, 1957 New York, NY; 1929 alumnus of UNH who donated paper to that university, along with a bookplate collection. Lewis Stark began collecting bookplates as an undergraduate at UNH in the late 1920s and later used this collection as the basis for his master's thesis, "English Literature as Reflected in Bookplate Design." From UNH newsletter: Lewis M. Stark ’29, ’31G of Goffstown, N.H., died on June 28. He was 96. Stark received a B.A. in music and an M.A. in English from UNH, and then earned a master’s degree from Columbia University’s School of Library Service. Until his retirement in 1972, he was the chief of the rare books division of the New York City Public Library. Stark was also an accomplished pianist and a passionate collector of early New Hampshire imprints, many of which he donated to UNH’s Special Collections.
