Ella Crank 14, daughter of Mr.and Mrs. John Crank of Buchanan, Lawrence County, was drowned in the Big Sandy river near Zelda Station Tuesday afternoon at three o'clock according to word recieved here today! Miss Crank is said to gone wading in the river with her mother, a younger sister and a neighbor child when she suddenly found herself in deep water and was unable to swim. Mrs. Crank, the younger sister and Mrs. Crank's ten year son, all tried vainly to save Ella.They narrowly escaped being drowned themselves. The younger girl got hold of her sister, who was dragged under with her and barely escaped. Mrs. Crank and the little boy both risked thier lives in a vain attempt to bring Ella safely to the shore. An inquest was held by Coroner C.E. Scaggs and Judge R. C. Moore of Lousia.
