After graduating from Battle Creek High School, he enlisted in the U.S. Coast Guard and served aboard the USS Belfast in the South Pacific during World War II. He graduated from the University of Michigan in 1952 with a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering. 'Jess' retired in 1987 from the Babcock & Wilcox Company, Barberton, after 35 years of service. He was a life member of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers, V.F.W., and American Legion.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 64 years, Helen (Good), son Robert G. Vaughn, and parents. Jesse is survived by children Marilyn J. (David) Walker of Wadsworth, and David J. (Tessie) Vaughn of Monroe, Wisconsin; grandchildren Cheryl (Luke) Roenneburg of Cross Plains, Wisconsin, Carl G. Vaughn of Overland Park, Kansas, Thomas G. (Tini) Walker of Monterey, California, and Daniel J. (Hillary) Walker of Fort Leavenworth, Kansas; and five great grandchildren.
