From the July 30, 1964 Rockville Leader Newspaper: Ben Whitson, born Feb. 19, 1893 at Coffeyville, Kansas and passed away unexpectedly Monday afternoon at the home of his daughter Mrs. Ruby Faulk in Kansas City, Kansas. Other survivors include 2 sisters, Grace and Martha, and 1 brother, Lee, all of Parsons, Kans; 5 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife Roxie in Sept. 1962.
They lived in Rockville for a number of years and ran a rest home. He also had a broom factory in Rockville. He was well known in this area and always cheerful to the people who knew him.
Funeral services were held today (Wed) at the J (?)
Chapel in El Dorado Spings with Rev. Gary Benjamin officiating. Organ selections. Interment in Rockville cemetery.

Mother's name/maiden name/place of birth: Mary Olive Whitson/Mary Olive Roberts/Marshall, IL. Father's name/place of birth: Henry Clay Whitson/Galena, IL.
Ben and his brother Lee registered for the WWI draft on June 5, 1917. Ben, who was married and living in Baxter Spgs, KS, gave his birth date/location as: Feb. 19, 1892/Jefferson City, MO. Lee, who was single and living in Parsons, KS, gave his birth date/location as: Mar. 30, 1895/Britt, IA. The location Lee gave was correct but his date of birth was actually Mar. 30, 1898. (See Iowa, Births and Christenings Index, 1857-1947.) Lee served in the military from 27 Sep 1917 until 27 Sep 1919.
Both Ben and Lee reported earlier birth dates on various documents from that date forward.
