It is known that Lillie died of ptomaine poisoning due to eating poorly canned salmon. It almost killed the rest of the family and would have had it not been for the good graces of Dr. `Doc` Dilliman. He was able to flush the poison from the rest of the family with purgatives. Lillie had ingested more than the rest and died.
