Elizabeth Cardwell Joyce, 77, originally of Elizabethton, passed away Saturday,
September 3, 2005, at Hillcrest West, Knoxville, after a brief illness.
Mrs. Joyce was a native of Carter County and a daughter of the late Ernest M.
and Ruby Nave Cardwell. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death
by her husband, Joseph R. Joyce Jr., of Stoneville, N.C.
Mrs. Joyce attended Mars Hill College and was a graduate of the University of
North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She was a retired librarian and housewife, who
was known for her love of mystery novels, animals, shopping and talking with
friends. She was a former member of First Baptist Church of Elizabethton.
Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Robert Martin and Barbara Joyce,
Memphis; a daughter and son-in-law, Nita Elizabeth and Tim Fisher, Knoxville;
and a grandson, Allen Joyce, Memphis.
Funeral services for Mrs. Joyce will be conducted at 3 p.m. Thursday, September
8, at Memorial Funeral Chapel with Rev. Brent Seals officiating. Interment will
follow at Happy Valley Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be contacted. The family
will receive friends from 2 to 3 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Condolences
