Serrano, Louis 01/05/1937 ~ 01/29/2015 SAN DIEGO -- Louis Andrew Serrano, age 78, passed away suddenly surrounded by family and friends on January 29th 2015. Louis "Louie" was born in Old Town San Diego on Jan. 5th 1937. He was a seventh generation San Diegan. He was one of fifteen children born to Violet McKay Serrano and George Anthony Serrano. Louie attended Point Loma High School and loved playing baseball and basketball. He joined the Army and graduated into the 82nd Airborne Division as a Paratrooper. He was stationed in Augsburg Germany. Upon his return, he married Etelvina Ruiz and raised five children. He worked for Dana Johnson Construction and was a lather for over fifty years. Papa Lou was a devoted father and friend to so many. He was loved by all who knew him, always making time for everyone and helping those in need. He was young at heart and enjoyed spending every Thursday at "The Alley" with longtime friends. Besides being a history buff, he was a huge fan of the LA Dodgers and enjoyed horse racing, golfing, bowling, Nascar and football. Louie is survived by his three daughters, Lisa (Dwight Valentine) Tierra Verde, FL; Kimberly (Kyle Ross) San Diego; Laurie (Tom Ruckle) San Diego; and two sons, Louis (JoAnn) Odessa TX, and Daniel (Juanita) San Diego. Papa Lou leaves behind his cherished twelve Grandchildren; Rachel, Sophia, Andrew, Erica, Daniel, Thomas, Lauren, Clayton, Landry, Bradley, Steven and Rachel Anne; eight great-grandchildren; Kylie, Samantha, Jackson, Chloe, Bella, Michael and Eva and a great-grandbaby due on March 17th. His surviving siblings are Georgia Drummond, Edward, James, Leonard, Carol Sue Peebles, Mary Jo, Sonia Gonsalves and Lana Hewlett. Lou was preceded in death by Etelvina; his parents, and brothers; George, Bobby, Rodney and sisters; Jerry, Barbara Bohannon and Bette June Marciel. Our family is grateful to the entire medical team at Sharp Memorial Hospital. The service will be held on Wednesday, March 11th, at the Church of The Immaculate Conception in Old Town at 10:00am followed by a Military service at Miramar National Cemetery, 12:30pm. Beardsley- Mitchell Funeral Home Ocean Beach.
