Pat was born in Cape Breton Island, Nova Scotia, on May 30, 1928, and grew up in Hamilton, Ontario. He was the son of Norman and Dora Patterson. As a young man, he worked at The Belgrade Hotel and Cottage Resort in Belgrade Lakes, where he met his wife, Janet.
Pat worked for the Acheson Hotels at locations in Belgrade Lakes, Lewiston, Rockland and Augusta. After working as assistant manager for the Augusta House, he worked for Central Maine Power Company as a lighting specialist. Pat then went out on his own and was self employed as a manufacturers' representative in commercial and industrial lighting for over 30 years until his retirement.
When asked to describe Pat, friends and relatives say he was positive, generous, a gentleman and a joy to be around. He was devoted to his wife and missed her very much after her death in 2009. Pat was very personable and a good conversationalist. He enjoyed swimming and once swam across Belgrade Lake. He participated in the swimming program in Cape Elizabeth. In the past few years, he very much enjoyed meeting his friends at Tim Horton's in South Portland.
Pat was predeceased by his wife, Janet; and by his brother Donald. He is survived by his sons Jeffrey of Westbrook, and Bob and his wife, Sue of Kennebunk; granddaughter, Jill Patterson of Naugatuck, Conn; sister Katherine Potter of Snohomish, Wash., and brother Norman of Long Beach, Calif.
A spring burial will be at Riverside Cemetery in Cape Elizabeth where Pat will be interred with his wife. Arrangements are with
Hobbs Funeral Home in South Portland.
