Kenneth Dale Taylor, 84, died Saturday, April 22, 2006 at Avonlea Assisted Living and Retirement Community in Tupelo after a lengthy illness. An Abbott, Texas native, he was born August 5, 1921, the only child of the late Thomas Oscar and Hercie Wilburn Taylor. He was a graduate of Texas Tech University in Lubbock with a B.A. in Accounting and Economics.

A veteran of World War II, he retired as Commander from the U. S. Navy May 31, 1964, after 22 years of service. He immediately commenced building his own commercial janitorial company in Corpus Christi, Texas. The company grew to a work force of over 200 employees. On December 31, 1980, he sold the business and then worked 8 years as an accountant for Browning Brothers Furniture Company.

While living in Texas, he was a deacon for 15 years in the First Baptist Church of Corpus Christi, Texas where he served on almost every committee of the church for periods of time, including chairman of the committee to select new deacons and chairman of the personnel committee. He also served as a Sunday school teacher for the 6 year-olds for 12 years. After moving to Tupelo, he served one term as deacon at First Baptist Church in Tupelo. He was married to Marigene O'Connor Taylor who preceded him in death, April 5, 2002.

Survivors include three children: Kenneth Taylor, Jr. and his wife, Gloria; Cecille Goysich and husband, John; Gene Taylor and wife, Julia.

A memorial service will be at 4 p.m. Monday, April 24, at First Baptist Church in Tupelo with Rev. Rick Ball and Rev. Dave Jensen officiating, under the direction of W. E. Pegues Funeral Directors. Serving as honorary pallbearers will be the members of Dr. John Bowlin's Sunday school class at First Baptist Church, Tupelo.

Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, April 26, at Ridge Park Cemetery in Hillsboro, Texas with Rev. Andy Davis officiating. The family will receive visitors from 10-11 AM at Marshall and Marshall Funeral Directors East Side Chapel in Hillsboro prior to the service.
