Sarah was the first daughter born to Shelton (1771-1853) and Mildred (or Millicent) Terrell (1779-1839) White of Elbert County, Georgia. She married Hugh McGehee in Elbert County at the age of fifteen, on September 29, 1814. Sarah and Hugh became parents to twelve children, the last of whom, Shelton M. McGehee, was born only a few days prior to her death. A year following her death, her husband Hugh moved with several of his children and their families to North Mississippi. Hugh settled in Panola County, Mississippi and never remarried. His father-in-law, Shelton White, also moved to the Panola County area following the death of his wife Milly in 1839. There is no evidence stating where Sarah might be buried, but she most certainly is located in Oglethorpe County near the plantation home that she shared with her husband, Hugh, and where she gave birth to their children.
