She retired as a librarian for the Chesapeake School Board after 33 years of service. She was born in Bethel, N.C., and was the widow of Cecil L. Whitfield Sr. She was a member of Ebenezer Baptist Church and its Thursday Bible Study and Women's Service League.
Survivors include her sons, Cecil L. Whitfield Jr., Darrell A. Whitfield; three brothers, Marvin Cherry, Clarence Cherry, Kenneth Cherry; three grandchildren, Cicely, CeSha and April Whitfield.
A funeral will be conducted at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday by the Rev. Ben A. Beamer in Ebenezer Baptist Church. Burial will be in Lincoln Cemetery. Fisher Funeral Home is in charge.
