The family left Georgia, moving to Iowa during Reconstruction in the Deep South, eventually making their home in Hico Texas.
Riley married Vivian Minnie Lula [Mayfield] of Clairette Texas and to their union 6 daughters were born: Gladis, who lived less than one year; Baby Brown, who died the day she was born; Lillie [Mrs. Jesse E. White]; Ninnie Ella
[Mrs. Addison Ray Oxford]; Ethel Iantha "Cecil" [Mrs. Virgil McCoy] and Vivian Heloise [Mrs. J. W. Morton].
Riley's wife and 5 of his 6 daughters rest together in Chalk Mountain Cemetery. Daughter Ethel rests in nearby Nancy Smith Cemetery.
