Irene Black, 103, passed away on Thursday, February 19, 2015 at the United Methodist North Campus, Lawrenceville, Illinois.

She was born on December 28, 1911 to Lydia (Robbins) Catt and John Clarence Catt in Lawrence County, Illinois.

She married John Warren Black on June 9, 1929 and he preceded her in death.

She was a homemaker and a noted genealogist; founder of Irene Black Genealogical Historical Library in Bridgeport, Illinois.

Irene was a very dedicated member of The First Christian Church in Bridgeport, D.A.R; Daughters of American Colonist; Society of Colonial Dames of XVII Century; Lawrence County Historical Society and Richland County Genealogical Society; Illinois State Genealogy Society; and numerous local organizations.

She is survived by a brother, Marion L. Catt, of Grant Park, Illinois, a daughter, Rosemary Troxel of Polo, Illinois, a daughter-in-law, Eula Jean Black of Mattoon, Illinois, 4 grandchildren, Susan Whiting and husband Pete of Rock Falls, Illinois, Tom Troxel and wife Rosa of Little Rock , Arkansas, Bruce Black and wife, Cindy of Peachtree City, Georgia, Todd Black of Mattoon, Illinois, 7 great-grandchildren James Troxel and wife Karen of Norman, Oklahoma , Andrea Westen and husband Nicholas of Frisco, Texas, Matthew Black of Chicago, Il , Susanna Black of Mattoon, Illinois, Gabriel Black of Mattoon, Illinois, Austin Black of Peachtree City, Georgia, Peyton Black of Peachtree City, Georgia, and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her son Ted. R. Black, 1 brother and 5 sisters.

The Funeral Service will be on Monday , February 23, 2015 at 2:00 P.M. with Pastor Bill Cox officiating at Glasser Funeral Home in Bridgeport.

Burial will be in the Zion Cemetery, Lawrenceville.
