Alice Sapp, 87, of Alma, Georgia passed away Thursday at her daughter and son-in-law’s home in Valdosta, Georgia where she had been living for the past eight years. She was born in Bacon County, Coffee, Georgia in 1930 to Fulton and Lillian Carter.

In 1953 she married Rema H. Sapp of Douglas, Georgia at Friendship Methodist Church in Alma. Alice was a teacher for 30 years after having graduated from Valdosta State College with a major in Music and a minor in Education. After marrying Rema, they lived in Valdosta until the late 1950’s, and then in Athens, Dublin and St. Simons Island before settling in Alma. She was a member of Alma United Methodist Church and while living in Valdosta in recent years, a member of Park Avenue United Methodist Church, where she was a member of Lifebuilders Sunday School Class.

Mrs. Sapp was preceded in death by her parents Fulton and Lillian Carter, her husband Rema Sapp, and their son Harris Sapp. Alice is survived by her daughter Mary S. Powell and son-in-law, Dr. Patrick W. Powell of Valdosta, her sister Lawanna Carter Murphy McDaniel (Tom) of Alma, her brother Sammy Carter (Marie) of Alma, her granddaughter Kate Powell Gwin (Sam) of Auburn, Alabama, her grandson Patrick C. Powell (Jill) and great grandchild Abigail of St. Simons Island and her special pet and loyal companion Mason Dixon. The family would like to offer special thanks to Hospice of South Georgia. Also, gratitude is offered to Valeria Smith, Angela Hart and Wendy Morrison as well as other caregivers over the years that have offered their kindness.

There will be a visitation from 5:30-7 p.m. on Friday, May 11, 2018 at Carson McLane Funeral Home in Valdosta, GA. The family will receive friends in Alma, Ga on Saturday, May 12, 2018 at Friendship United Methodist Church starting at 10:30 am, followed by a service at 12:00 noon and burial in the church cemetery. Carson-McLane Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
