Peter Carpenter, of East Brainerd, passed away suddenly at home on Thursday, April 21, 2011. Born in Wimbledon, England in 1926, he served in the Royal Navy on the HMS Belfast during WWII. He and his wife immigrated to Canada in 1956, eventually relocating to Chattanooga where he became an American citizen in 1976. He was employed by Combustion Engineering and founded International Materials Handling. Peter was a former member of St. Martin's and St. Francis' Episcopal Churches and of the Hamilton Place YMCA.

Peter is survived by his wife Betty Ann Carpenter; children; Bonita (David) Prigmore, Chris (Angie) Carpenter, Richard (Anna Grace) Carpenter; grandchildren, Fallon Prigmore, Quinnby Carpenter and a brother, Bernard Carpenter.

The family request memorial contributions be made to The Salvation Army.

Funeral services are at 5:00 PM Monday, April 25, 2011 in the Heritage Funeral Home Chapel, Father James Marquis, Jr. officiating. The family will receive friends immediately following the service until 7:00 PM. Interment will be private.
