Anita M. Hoover, age 91, of Edwardsville, Illinois, died at 2:32 p.m. Wednesday, February 18, 2015, at Rosewood Care Center in Edwardsville. Mrs. Hoover was a retired school teacher and administrator, having taught at Hamel Elementary and Leclaire School, and having worked as Assistant Director of Special Education for Edwardsville School District 7. She was born May 15, 1923, in Chicago, Illinois, the daughter of the late Clyde E. & Elsie (Benda) Redman. She married Herbert C. Hoover on November 10, 1944, in Chicago, and he preceded her in death on July 19, 2007. Mrs. Hoover is survived by a son, Jack Hoover, of Edwardsville. She was preceded in death by her other son, Richard Hoover, and three brothers, Clyde, Richard and Harry Redman. She was a graduate of Southern Illinois University Edwardsville where she majored in Elementary Education, receiving a Bachelor’s degree in 1962 and a Master’s degree six years later. She continued her education in 1974, earning a Sixth-year Specialist Certificate with a major in Secondary Education. She retired in June of 1990 as a special education coordinator/teacher. Mrs. Hoover was a member of the Madison County Retired Teachers Association, the Alpha Delta Kappa Teachers Sorority and St. John’s United Methodist Church in Edwardsville. A memorial service will be scheduled at a later date. Following cremation, interment will be at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery.
