Daughter of William Almy and Audrey Barlow.

Born 1636 in Lynn (Saugus), MA; died 1703 at Shark River in Monmouth Co., NJ.

Married (1) Bartholomew West in 1653 in Portsmouth, RI. They had four sons (Stephen, William, Bartholomew Jr., John) and two daughters (Audrey, Ann).

Catherine's parents (William and Audrey Almy) and her two older siblings (Christopher, Annis) immigrated from England to Massachusetts on the Ship Abigail in 1635.

Catherine had three brothers (Christopher, John, Job) and a sister (Annis "Ann"). More on Catherine's siblings at the bottom of page.

Married (2) Nicholas Brown in 1675. Nicholas was among one of the first purchasers of land in Monmouth, NJ in 1667, just as Catherine's first husband, Bartholomew, was too.

1. Stephen, born abt 1654 Portsmouth, RI; died 12 Aug 1748 Dartmouth, Bristol, MA; married Mercy Cooke (daughter of John Cooke and Sarah Warren) in 1682. Mercy’s father John and her grandfather Richard Warren were Mayflower passengers in 1620.

2. William, born abt 1657 Portsmouth, RI; died abt 1743; married Margaret Wardell (widow of Ephraim Allen) in Feb 1694. In 1694, William was High Sheriff of Monmouth County.

3. Bartholomew, Jr., born abt 1659 Portsmouth, RI. Bartholomew is named as grandson in William Almy’s will.

4. John, born abt 1660 Portsmouth, RI; died Jan 1728 Shrewsbury, NJ; married Jane Wing (daughter of Joseph Wing and Jerusha Mayhew) on 15 Oct 1694 in Shrewsbury, East Jersey.

5. Audrey, born abt 1662 Portsmouth, RI; died 6 Mar 1749 Shrewsbury, NJ; married Thomas Webley in abt 1687 in Shrewsbury, East Jersey. Thomas Webley, a lawyer, was lost at sea in 1702 on a voyage to London, England.

6. Ann, born abt 1664 Portsmouth, RI; married William Woolley.

1. Annis "Ann", born 1627 Leicestershire, England; died 6 May 1709 Rhode Island; married John Greene, Jr. (son of John Greene and Joan Tattershall) in 1648 in Warwick, RI. John Greene, Jr. was Deputy Governor of the Colony of Rhode Island and Providence Plantations from 1690-1700. He was one of the prominent public men of his day holding several official positions from 1652-1700: Commissioner, General Recorder, General Solicitor, Attorney General, Deputy, and Deputy Governor.

2. Christopher, born 1632 Leicestershire, England; died 30 Jan 1713 Portsmouth, RI; married Elizabeth Cornell (daughter of Thomas Cornell and Rebecca Briggs) on 9 Jul 1661 in Portsmouth, RI. Christopher was elected Governor of Rhode Island in 1690 but he refused to serve. On 24 Aug 1693 (in England), he represented Rhode Island with a hand-delivered petition to Queen Mary. Christopher and Elizabeth’s great grandson was William Ellery, a signer of the Declaration of Independence from the Rhode Island Colony.
