Dezzie Jean Abel, age 81, of Great Cacapon, WV, died on Wednesday, February 18, 2015 at Berkeley Springs Rehabilitation & Nursing.

Born November 13, 1933 in Louisville, KY, she was the daughter of the late Austin and Vida Spriggs Chism.

She was of the Protestant faith. Jean attended public schools in Louisville, KY. She had worked as a retail clerk with Giant Foods at various locations in Baltimore County, MD. She loved yard sales, flea markets and shopping in general. She had been a homemaker in recent years.

Jean is survived by her children, James Howard, Jr. of Great Cacapon, WV, Robert Dale Howard of Baltimore, MD and Sharon Marie Radtke of Essex, MD, her brother, Dale Adam Chism of Louisville, KY, six grandchildren, two great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Abel.

The family will receive friends from 4-7 p.m. on Friday, February 27 at Helsley-Johnson Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 95 Union Street, Berkeley Springs, WV where services will be conducted at 6:00 p.m. Interment will be private.
