Essie Mae Chapman, 94, of Connelly Springs, NC went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, February 18, 2015. Born in Burke County, NC on November 22, 1920, she was the daughter of the late Andrew Goins and Tessie Mae Chapman Goins. Essie was a member of Mt. Gilead Baptist Church. She loved to cook, crochet, and spend time with her family.

Essie is survived by her daughter, Dorothea Anderson of Morganton, NC; daughter-in-law, Carolyn Chapman of Valdese, NC; grandchildren, Rocky Chapman of Valdese, NC, Alan Chapman of Valdese, Kenny Peeler of Lenoir, NC, Jeff Chapman of Valdese, and Steve Peeler and his wife, Susie, of Morganton; a grandson-in-law, Leonard Butler of Morganton; number of great-grandchildren, brother, Garland Goins of Connelly Springs, NC, sister Clara Belle Chapman of Morganton NC, and a number of nieces, and nephews.

In addition to her parents, Essie was preceded in death by her husband, Quinton Chapman; infant son, Howard Lee Chapman; son, Ulysses Chapman; a granddaughter, Patricia Butler; a sister, Mattie Marie Chapman; and a brother, Romey Goins.

The funeral will be held at 2:00 p.m., Monday, February 23, 2015 at Mt. Gilead Baptist Church with the Reverends Keith Fullbright, Burl Sain, and Randy Cook officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
