Edward Henry Baker, 77, of Ocala, Florida died Monday, Dec. 11, 1989 at his residence following several months of declining health.
Ed was the son of Walter Kaler Baker and Anna Martha Smith. He was born August 21, 1912 in Burgess, Mercer County, Illinois and was a graduate of Aledo High School. He married Geraldine Clements on January 25, 1935 in Peoria, Illinois. The happy couple raised three children in Champaign, Illinois and renewed their vows on their 50th wedding anniversary in Ocala, Florida.
Ed and Gerry moved to Ocala from Champaign, Ill. around 1977. Mr. Baker was a retired financial director for Carle Foundation Hospital, Urbana, Ill. He was also employed for 28 years at Jos. Kuhn & Co. department store in Champaign, Ill. Mr. Baker was an active member of First Christian Church of Ocala, serving as an Elder, chairing various committees and serving as Charmain of the Board in 1983. He also is a past President of the Federation of Mobile Home Owners and was very active in the Spanish Oaks community in Ocala. He gave each job his best and was regarded as an excellent leader due to his quiet, calm, easy, persistent way.
Survivors at the time of his death included his wife, Geraldine (Clements) Baker, Ocala; two daughters, Nancy Christiansen, Champaign, Ill., and Bonnie Baker, Tallahassee; a son, Edward Baker II, Dallas; four granddaughters and one great-granddaughter. He was preceded in death by his parents, his sister, Stella McConnell of Rock Island, Illinois and a great-granddaughter, Stephanie Crist of Hollywood, Florida.
Memorial services for Mr. Baker were held Sunday Dec. 17, 1989, at the First Christian Church, Ocala, with Dr. Henry Speight conducting the services under the direction of Roberts Funeral Home.
Burial of cremains at Woodlawn Cemetery, Urbana, Champaign County, Illinois.
