Born August 26, 1926 in Beaver Falls, she was the daughter of the late William J. Tress and Margaret A. (Scott) Tress. She retired from nursing at Providence Hospital, was a member of St. Monica's Parish, American Legion Auxiliary, Providence Hospital Nursing Alumni and Cadet Nurse Core of World War II.
Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, John H. Matthews (2003); a son, David T. Matthews; her brothers, William, Richard, Hilary and Donald Tress, and her sisters, Mildred Miller and Margaret Vaupel.
Surviving are her children, John W. Matthews of North Sewickley, Joyce Gruber of New Jersey, Peg (Mike) Devich of Industry, Joseph Matthews of Beaver, Mary Watson of North Sewickley and Kathy Matthews of North Sewickley; her grandchildren, Melissa (Breit) Cochran, Mike S. (Alisa) Devich, Natalie Watson, Timothy M. Watson and Jeremy Gruber; her great-grandchildren, Allison, Michael, Delaney, Emily, Katie, Ethan, Cameron and Justin, and her sister, Evelyn White of Darlington.
Friends will be received Sunday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. at the GABAUER-LUTTON FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION SERVICES, INC., 117 Blackhawk Road, Chippewa, www.gabauerlutton funeralhome.com., where prayers will be said Monday at 11:50 a.m. and a Mass of Christian burial will be held at 12:30 p.m. at St. Monica Parish, Chippewa with Fr. John Naugle officiating.
Interment will follow services at St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery.
The family asks that donations be made to either Beaver County Cancer and Heart Association or a charity of choice in memory of Marie.
