Mrs. Eliza E Guthridge died at the residence of W W Feland, near Fayette, on Dec 17th. she was born in Old Chariton, Howard co, Oct 30, 1822, the daughter of Joseph and Huldah (Hubbard) Monroe, and a niece of James Monroe, who served two terms as President of the U.S. Her parents both died in her early childhood, and she lived with relatives and friends in Howard and Chariton counties until Oct 30, 1861 when she was married to Wm. T. Guthridge of Chariton, as his second wife, thus becoming the stepmother of eight children, some of whom were young. All are now married and respectable citizens. They moved to Fayette in 1866, where Mr. Guthridge died May 9, 1875. After the death of her husband, she continued to live with her two youngest stepsons at their old home until about 4 years ago. About two years ago, she returned to Howard and resided with her stepdaughter, Mrs. W. W. Feland. Burial in the family burial ground.

It is unclear from her obituary what county the family burial ground was in. If anyone has further information about his, please send it.

The 1850 census shows her living in the household of Edward Blair & Harriet (Monroe) Cabell. Harriet was Eliza's half-sister. In 1860, Eliza is shown in her future husband's household. Ancestry family trees suggest she had moved in to help care for William's wife, Ruth, who died in February 1861. The 1870 census shows William, Eliza, Elijah, Reuben, and Elizabeth living in Howard County. I have been unable to find Eliza in the 1880 census.
