Bessie Pearl Lewis was the 4th child born to Rufus Alexander Lewis and Laura Stroup Lewis. She was educated in the public schools of Gastonia and married Alonzo Augustus Rhyne on Nov. 11, 1901. Bessie and Alonzo were parents to nine children.
