REV. DAVID LAIRD BARCLAY
May 30, 1929 – February 18, 2015
Reverend David Laird Barclay died on Wednesday the 18th of February at the Kansas City Hospice center. He was an active member of the community throughout the greater Kansas City area. Rev. Barclay was born in Chicago on May 30, 1929 and his family moved to Kansas City when he was 5 years old. He received his Eagle Scout rank and was the first scout in the area to receive the God and Country award. He graduated from Northeast High School in 1946. He attended Park College for two years before going into the US Navy during the Korean War and served on the USS Missouri and USS Wisconsin. Upon his discharge from the Navy he returned to Park College where he married his college sweetheart and love of his life Joan Caldwell in 1954 and had five children and 10 grandchildren.
Upon graduation from Park College he entered the ministry by attending the Episcopal Theological School (now Episcopal Divinity School) in Cambridge, MA, where he earned his Masters of Divinity in 1956. He was ordained an Episcopal priest at Grace and Holy Trinity Cathedral in Kansas City. MO. He went on to serve churches in West Plains, Mountain Grove and Kansas City Mo.; Anderson IN (he was also the 1st police Chaplin), San Diego CA.; Overland Park KS.; and most recently Fort Leavenworth KS. Retiring in 2014 from Fort Leavenworth and receiving ta medal for his dedication of 30 years of service from the Suffragen Bishop for the Armed Forces in the Episcopal Church.
Rev. Barclay also remained active with the Park University Alumni Council where he received Torchlighter Award in 2014 for his long-standing contribution and commitment to Park University. Rev. Barclay touched everyone he met and for those he did not know well he was always eager to spread happiness to everyone he met by passing out HUG CARDS!!
Rev. David Laird Barclay is survived by 4 of his children and 9 grandchildren.

Memorial service will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, February 28, 2015 at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, 209 N. 7th Street, Leavenworth, KS.
