Curtis Henry Ault was born in St. Clairsville, Ohio on August 26, 1929 and died in Bloomington, Indiana on February 17, 2015. He lived on a farm until he was 15 years old and then moved to Newark, Ohio. He was the oldest of three siblings in his family, and had a younger brother, Lewis, and a younger sister, Jean. He joined the United States Army Air Force after he finished High School, a couple of months before he turned 18 years old, and remained in the service for three years. He then started college on the G.I. bill at Kent State University, graduating with a degree in geology during December 1953. He went to graduate school at the University of Illinois, and received a Master of Science degree in Geology during 1956. His first job was with Carter Oil Company (later Humble Oil Company and then Exxon). During an assignment in Durango, Colorado, he met a secretary at the company, Dixie Jo Reynolds, dated her, fell in love with her, and married her at a ceremony in Vernal Utah, her birthplace, on August 23, 1958. Curtis and Dixie started their married life in Carmi Illinois for seven years and then were transferred by his company to Evansville, Indiana during 1965. During 1968 he took a job at the Indiana Geological Survey in Bloomington, Indiana and worked there until he retired during 1993. He is survived by his wife, Dixie, and their 5 sons and 1 daughter: Wayne (Lynette), Christopher (Laura), Matthew (Myrna), Thomas (Shanna), April (Jason Whiting), and Andrew (Luciana). He also is survived by 27 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren, his brother, Lewis Ault, and his Sister Jean Hepner. He joined The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter day Saints during 1968, and from that time, served in many volunteer leadership positions including Elders Quorum President, Seventies Group Leader, Bishop, Stake President, and Louisville, Kentucky Temple President. He also served a full-time mission for the Church during his retirement years in Arcadia, California, and then for a short time in Bloomington, Indiana before beginning his service as the Louisville, Kentucky Temple President. His unique personality and offbeat humor endeared him to many. His grandchildren loved his silliness and playfulness. He is beloved by his abundant number of family members, work associates, and friends, and he will be missed. Visitation will be held Friday, February 20th from 4-8 pm at The Funeral Chapel of Powell & Deckard, 3000 E. Third St, in Bloomington. Funeral services will be held Saturday, February 21st at 11:00 am at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, 2411 E. 2nd St in Bloomington. Interment will follow the service at Clear Creek Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to IU Health Hospice House-Bloomington, P.O. Box 1149, Bloomington, IN 47402.
