Amel is the son of Louis J Crame and Victorina Manche Crame. He married Adele Olive Gehringer in 1908 in Allegheny County, PA. They had children, Amel, Anna Belle, Katherine Elizabeth, Bernard A., Henry John, Louis, Georgia, and Harold Crame.

He is a first generation American, his parents immigrated from Belgium. His father arriving first in 1887 and his mother arriving in 1888 with their two oldest children. Mary Louisa & Louis Crame. His parents were married in 1883 in Belgium. While an exact city of birth is not known for his father, his mother was born in Charleroi, Hainaut, Belgium. In addition to Mary Louisa and Louis, Amel also has siblings: John, Josephine, Harry, Henry, Albert, Alexander, Frank & George Crame.

Amel left school in the 5th grade to help support his family by working in the coal mines. In addition to his work in the mines, he was known for doing odd jobs to help make ends meet. He was a family man and took great pride in his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Despite his many long hours spent working, he made time to participate in any family function for his kids, grandkids, and great grandkids, including the christening of my mother, his great granddaughter through his daughter Anna Belle Crame Kron Rixner.
