C. W. Anderson, one of the original pioneers, who settled Mt. Pleasant in 1859, died at the family home after a brief illness from dropsy and rheumatism.
Mr. Anderson was born in Sweden, November 12, 1843. His parents embraced the Mormon faith in their native land and came to Utah in 1853, locating at Brigham City after a long and hazardous trip across the plains in Captain Guyman's company. In 1858 the family moved to Ephraim and in 1863 came with the first company of twenty-two pioneers who agreed to settle in Mt. Pleasant. Here Mr. Anderson had resided ever since. He was active in the upbuilding of the city, was a prominent woolgrower, Union Wool and Livestock commission, of which he was a director, and also the Union Mercantile company. He also was one of the organizers of the Twin Creek irrigation company.
Mrs. Anderson was married in Mt. Pleasant March 8, 1861, to Miss Margaret Thompson , who died in 1875. On April 23, 1879, he was married to Miss Johana Pearson, who with one son, Neilson W. Anderson, survives him. The couple celebrated their forty-second wedding anniversary last spring, surrounded by their family and many friends.
In 1909 Mr Anderson helped organize and was one of the directors of the Mt. Pleasant Pioner Historical association, which that year celebrated the fiftieth anniversary of the founding of Mt. Pleasant. He also was intrumental in the ercection of the beautiful monument unveiled that year to the memory of the original Mt. Pleasant colonists.
