Ansel L. Petrie died September 20th, at his home in Larned St. after a brief illness. Mr. Petrie was born at Hammond, NY. fifty-six years ago. His early life was spent in Oswego and thirty years ago, he came to Potsdam. March 17th, 1887, he was united in marriage to Miss Carrie Jones, daughter of Truman and Elizabeth Jones, who with one daughter, Elizabeth Petrie mourns his loss. He is also survived by his mother of Oswego, three brothers, Charles of Hannibal, Ralph of Rochester, and Frank of Potsdam, and four sisters, Mrs. F. E. Timmerman of Potsdam, Mrs. Earl Case of Oswego, Mrs. George Wright of Seneca Falls and Emma Petrie of Osewgo. Joining the Baptist church in boyhood, and since coming to Potsdam has. been a most devoted worker in tbe church here, serving faithfully as trustee, deacon and SS Superintendent. He will be missed in every activity of the church life. He was also a member of the Masonic Order, the I.O.O.F, and Sons of Veterans, The funeral was held in the Baptist Church Sunday, September 23rd, at 3 p. m., and was in charge of his brothers in the Masonic Lodge, Hundreds came to pay a last tribute to one who lived to make life better and brighter for all with whom he came in contact, The bereaved family have the sincere sympathy of all.
