Edwin L. Mattes, 71, of Topeka, IN, died at 7:07 p.m. Thursday, 30Jun1994, in Elkhardt General Hospital, Elkhart, IN.
A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Central Christian Church in Washington, IN, with the Rev. James K. Payton officiating. There will be no visitation. Ulrey-Renner Funeral Home, Ligonier, IN, is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Mattes was born 07Oct1922, in Vandalia, son of Harold & Clara Harrison Mattes. He was a retired Captain in the U.S. Army, serving from 1944-1964. He was a member of glen Dale Masonic Lodge 461, American Legion Post 243, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3321, National Rifle Association & was a life member of Retired Officers Association. He married Florida Wilson on 11Feb1945, in Washington, IN. She died in 1990.
Surviving are her sons, Larry & Gary, both of Washington, IN; daughters, Mary Ellen Williams of Terre Haute, IN; & Sherry Lambright of Topeka; sister, Lovetta Stewart of Pekin; 9 grandchildren; & 5 great-grandchildren.
Two brothers preceded him in death.
