Mary Elizabeth DeVore 80, of Abilene, Texas passed away Monday, February 16, 2015.

A funeral service will be held at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at Victory Baptist Church with David Sims officiating. The family will receive friends from 12:30 – 1:30 p.m. Thursday, in Victory Baptist Church. Burial will follow in the Texas State Veterans Cemetery, under the direction of North’s Funeral Home, 242 Orange St.

Mary was born June 13, 1934 at Ft. Sam Houston (army brat) San Antonio, Texas to Arthur and Margaret (Kellet) Crowell.

She married Doswell Carey who preceded her in death in 1963.

She married Harry DeVore June, 15, 1965, who preceded her in death on June 1, 2014.

She worked in the candy department at Joske’s, San Antonio, Texas for ten years. She worked twenty-four years in Civil Service at Lackland Air Force Base, retiring in 1991.

She loved music, singing and playing the guitar at church, and was in the Big Country Autoharp and Dulcimer Club.

She is survived by one son, Thad Carey and wife Tempye of Abilene. Also survived by a brother, R. C. Crowell and wife Etna of Biloxi, Mississippi, and a sister, Evelyn Sangalli of San Antonio, Texas, along with nephews, Bob Crowell, Bill Crowell, and nieces, Jennifer Gonzalez, Joyce Morgan and Kathy Crowell, all of Biloxi, Mississippi.

The family would like to extend a very special thanks to Dr. Allen Schultz and Staff, Hendrick Medical Center Recovery Room nurses, ICU nurses and the Hospice nurses for the special care they gave to Mary.

In lieu of flowers, the family would like donations to be made to the Building Fund at Victory Baptist Church, 4810 Jarman Rd. Abilene, Texas 79603.
