Pauline Wampler Reed, Dallas, Texas, died Friday, August 29, 2003, at C.C. Young Retirement Community, Dallas, 12 years after contracting breast cancer. Born June 19, 1925, in Clever, Mo., as Lena Pauline Dean to parents Margie Pauline Solomon and Benjamin Franklin Dean, Polly was adopted and raised in Clever by her great-aunt and uncle, Lula Mae Johnson and Eugene Wampler.

Preceded in death by her sister, Lula Eugenia Dean Kissire, and her former husband Robert Caldwell Reed.

She is survived by her half-sister, Mary Kathleen (Kay) Hunter, Springfield, Mo.; three children, Patricia Reed Turk, Anna, Texas, Edwards Eugene Reed, Honeoye Falls, N.Y., and Julia Reed McMaster, Raleigh, Miss.; five grandchildren, Richard Steven Turk, Robert Bryan Turk, Anne Victoria McMaster, Andrew Robert McMaster, and Robert Edwards Matthews Reed; and one great-grandson, Robert Maximillian Turk. Polly was a life-long teacher of English and Music, serving in Clever, Nixa, Republic and Stafford, Mo., and Springdale, Ark.

A member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, she spent her retirement years researching her own genealogical roots along the Solomon, Dean, Johnson and Ansley lines. Her research notes will be donated to the Christian County Library, Ozark, Mo. A memorial service is scheduled at 11 a.m. Tuesday, September 9, 2003 at the chapel of First Baptist Church, 525 South Ave., Springfield, Mo. Guests are invited to wear or bring "something purple." Interment will follow at the Frazier Cemetery, Boaz, Mo.
