SYLVIA ANN ARNOLD, age 96 of Canton, peacefully fell asleep in the Lord, surrounded by her loving family at Aultman Compassionate Care Center Tuesday morning. Born in Astoria, Queens, New York, she lived most of her life in Massillon and Canton. Sylvia worked for Frieg's Restaurant in Massillon, W.T. Grant, Massillon City Hospital and retired as a self-employed caretaker. She was a member of The Basilica of St. John the Baptist in Canton, and the Massillon Women's Club. And was a Girl Scout Leader of Troop 592 in Massillon. She volunteered at the voting polls, and St. John's Samaritan's Table. She was an avid reader of books and magazines and loved cooking for her family. Preceded in death by her father Ian Smith, mother and step-father Agnes (Krajci) and Theodore Laboy who raised her, husband Raymond H. Arnold, grandchildren Perry Cain, Philip Papadopulos, great-grandchild Emma Stewart-King, siblings; Stanley and Gladys who were infant twins, Pauline Sarcone, Rosemary Nelson and Mary Bell. She is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law Vivian and James Stewart of Levittown, NY, Kathleen Goff of Midland, North Carolina, Agnes and Ted Bowers of Canton, Nancy and Daryl Roberts of Annapolis, Maryland, Ann and Philip Papadopulos of Canton, 15 grandchildren, 17 great-great grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild, sisters Veronica Perez and Florence Holander both of North Carolina, and numerous nieces and nephews. Family and friends will be received on Saturday from 9 to 10 am at The Basilica of St. John the Baptist with a Mass of Christian Burial to follow at 10:00 am, the Very Reverend Ronald M. Klingler, Rector, as celebrant. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorial donations in Sylvia's name may be made to St. John's Samaritan's Table.
