Born November 22, 1921 in Atlanta, Roger was the son of the late Herbert and May C. Holman. He has lived in Charlotte since 1919. Mr. Holman was a graduate of Greenbrier Military School and UNC at Chapel Hill, where he was a member of the Chi PSI Fraternity. An officer in the U. S. Navy during World War II, Roger had served aboard a destroyer in the Pacific.
Mr. Holman was employed in Venezuela, South America by Gulf Oil Corporation. After returning to Charlotte, he retired as vice-president of Willard Lead Products Co.
He was active for a number of years with the Salvation Army Boys and Girls Club of America and was a long time volunteer with the Charlotte Orthopedic Hospital.
Mr. Holman is survived by his wife, Ann L. Holman; three sons, Roger Holman Jr. and wife, Linda, of Matthews, Daniel R. Holman and wife Sumner of Columbia, SC, and David L. Holman and wife, Wanda, of Charlotte; daughter, Julia Ann Harris and husband, Graham, of Charlotte; and grandchildren, Matthew Holman, Whitney Holman, Sarah Harris and Britt Freeman.
A service to celebrate his life will take place on Thursday, September 14th at 2:00 PM at Mouzon United Methodist Church, 3100 Selwyn Ave. The family will receive friends at the church from 1:00 to 2:00 PM. Memorials may be made to the Salvation Army, PO Box 31128, Charlotte, NC. 28231. Carolina Funeral Service & Cremation Center is entrusted with the arrangements.
