Mildred Marie (Beavers) McLaughlin, a former resident of the Chapman community, passed away at Salina Presbyterian Manor in Salina on Feb. 14, 2015 at the age of 94.

Mildred was born March 25, 1920 in the Flint Hills in rural Geary County. Her parents were Edward and Hattie Arkel Beavers. She attended a country grade school in the Humboldt Community, and graduated from St. Xaviers High School in Junction City. She attended St. Mary’s College, where she obtained a degree in nursing. She enlisted in the U.S. Army during World War II, where she was a registered nurse at Fort Lewis, Wash.

After her discharge, she was married to John Harold “Harry” McLaughlin on Nov. 4, 1974, and they made their home south of Chapman, until they later moved into the city of Chapman in 1982.

She had been the Director of Nursing at Chapman Valley Manor, and volunteered her services for many years. She was preceded in death by her husband, “Harry” on Jan. 27, 2002. She had lived in Salina Presbyterian Manor since Feb. 25, 2014. She was a member of St. Michael’s Catholic Church, the Altar Society, and the E.H.U.

She is survived by two sons, Jim McLaughlin and his wife Ranie of Chapman, and John McLaughlin of Chapman; seven daughters, Teresa McLaughlin of Lawrence, Mary Bauer and her husband (Jim) of Topeka, Linda Beach and her husband (David) of Salina, Nancy Rocheleau of Holden, Mass., Patricia Befort and her husband Mike of Kansas City, Kan., Joyce Stowell and her husband Jerry of Frankfort, and Carolyn Maxwell and her husband Lenard of Great Bend. She was preceded in death by her parents, Edward and Hattie; her husband, “Harry;” and one daughter, Anna Walker.

The Funeral Mass will be held at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Chapman on Feb. 18 at 10:30 a.m. Father Peter O’Donnell will officiate. Burial will be at St. Patrick’s Cemetery, northeast of Chapman. The Scripture Vigil will be held at St. Michael’s Catholic Church on Feb. 17, beginning at 5 p.m. and followed by visitation with the family until 7 p.m.

Memorials may be given to St. Michael’s Catholic Church, and may be sent in care of the Londeen Funeral Chapel, Box 429, Chapman, KS 67431.
