"On the first Sunday of this month, Chunkey and its surroundings were made sad by the stealing visitation of the death angel, who plucked from the family of Dr. E. B. Partin, of this place, Reeves, the oldest son, at 11 o'clock Saturday night. He was one of our bright and promising young men, who was in the employ of the Alabama and Vicksburg Railway for some months, probably eighteen or more. He had served as fireman until he was capable of controlling a locomotive successfully, and would have soon been promoted to engineer. Reeves stood high in regard to his friends as well as in society, and was beloved by all who knew him. He was laid to rest at the Chunkey cemetery on Sunday at eight by the Rev. W. L. Buckley as the officiating pastor."
