Norman "Kootch" Burnett, 78, of Granite City, died at 2:25 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 10, 2007, in Granite City.

He was born June 28, 1928, in Granite City. Mr. Burnett was a member of Second Baptist Church in Granite City; retired in 1996 after 18 years as a foreman at U.S. Steel - Granite City Works; was previously employed by Union Starch (Miles Laboratory) in Granite City for 29 years as a night superintendent; was a member of VFW Post 1300 in Granite City; and was a U.S. Army veteran.

He married the former Glorialee I. Fike on Oct. 18, 1952, in Granite City. She survives after 54 years of marriage.

Other survivors include two sons, Danny (Joyce) Wilson of East Alton and Bradley Burnett of Doniphan, Mo.; two daughters, Cheryl (Bob) Smith of Waterloo and Donna (Toby) Gomez of Granite City; four grandsons, Mark, Tod, Joey and Zachary; three granddaughters, Cindy, Ashley and Brittany; and three great-grandchildren, Jordan, Zada and Jaylee.

He was preceded in death by a son, Bruce Burnett; his parents, Benjamin and Naomi (Meltabarger) Burnett; one sister, Gladys Burnett; and four brothers, Lyle Burnett, Albert "Bus" Burnett, Donald Burnett and Ernie Burnett.

Funeral services were Friday, Jan. 12, at Second Baptist Church with the Rev. Brian Smith officiating.

Burial was in Sunset Hill Memorial Estates in Glen Carbon.

Irwin Chapel, 3960 Maryville Road in Granite City, handled the arrangements.

Memorials may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital and will be accepted at the funeral home
