Obituary:
Merrill Dean Anthony was born on November 1, 1925 in Marion County, Iowa, the son of Arch Anthony and Hazel (Kading) Anthony.

He was raised in the Pleasantville area and graduated with the Pleasantville High School Class of 1942. Merrill farmed for several years before entering the United States Air Force. He served four years during the Korean War before he was honorably discharged. When Merrill returned home, he continued to farm and additionally became a rural mail carrier. He carried the mail over 25 years before retirement. Always one to stay active, Merrill continued to farm until his sudden death.

He had a variety of interests; he was a history buff and was particularly interested in the Civil War and he avidly chronicled his family's genealogy. Merrill particularly enjoyed the annual 51" Fighter Wing reunions.

He was a member of the NARFE, Rural Mail Carriers Association, Marion County Cattleman's Association, American Legion Post No. 108, Fairview Christian Church, Sons of Union Veterans, Marion County Historical Society, Warren County Historical Society, Iowa Genealogy Society and the Modern Woodsmen of America.

Merrill passed away on Sunday, December 11, 2005 at his home at the age of 80 years, 1 month and 10 days.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Esther Hoch and Ruth Ellen and brother, Arthur.

Those left to honor his memory include his sisters, Dorothy Surber of Windsor, California; Mildred Hoffman of Alexandria, Louisiana; Norma Snodgrass of Des Moines; Irma Hudson of Baxter, Minnesota and Marjorie Dop of Pleasantville and many other relatives and friends.
