Son of Charles and Dolores (LaMore) Grant. He moved to Elkhart, Indiana in 1961 and was employed as an industrial engineer by T.W. Armstrong and C.G. Conn, Ltd, among others, in the manufacture of musical instruments. He served honorably in the US Army prior to moving to Elkhart.
