He was a graduate of the Christian Brothers school in Pass Christian, Miss. He studied law in the office of Major Andrew Stuart Herron and was admitted to the Bar in 1881.
He was an attorney and former judge of the 22nd Judicial District, East Baton Rouge Parish. In 1896, he was elected to serve in the Louisiana Senate. He was a delegate to the 1913 Louisiana Constitutional Convention.
He died of a massive heart attack at home in Baton Rouge.
