Reverend Thomas Palmer is the second Pastor of the First Church of Christ in Middleborough, Ordained 2nd May 1702. Reverend Thomas Palmer had acted as a supply the greater part of the time since August 1696 when he is engaged to preach for one-third of a tear for a salary of thirteen pounds. In October, the town voted him a yearly salary of thirty-five pounds. In November of 1698, the town voted that his goods should be brought from Plymouth at town charge. There is much opposition from neighboring clergy and members of the church to his becoming settled Pastor. After his Ordination in 1702, the opposition increased on account of hia alleged unfitness, he being charged with misbehavior and intemperance. Under date of 2nd June 1708, the Church record lists:
