Gene Sterling Ammons Jr., 40, a resident of 6028 Iverleigh Circle, passed away Wednesday, Feb. 8, 2006, in Cape Fear Valley Medical Center.

Mr. Ammons was a graduate of Fayetteville Academy and Campbell University. He served on the board of trustees of Fayetteville Academy.

He was the owner and operator of Fairfield Inn, Sleep Inn and Quality Inn Ambassador in Fayetteville. Mr. Ammons was the president of the Choice Hotels International Operators Council. He was the co-owner and operator of Sterling J. Farm in Linden.

He was a member of Highland Presbyterian Church.

Mr. Ammons is survived by his wife, two sons, his mother and father, and two sisters

A private graveside service will be conducted at 2 p.m. today, Feb. 10, 2006, in the Ammons family cemetery in Linden, with Dr. J. Ernest Johnson and Dr. Leighton McKeithen officiating.

The family will receive friends at Highland Presbyterian Church Fellowship Hall from 6:30 to 8:30.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Gene S. Ammons Jr. Playground Fund, c/o Highland Presbyterian Church, 111 Highland Ave., Fayetteville, NC 28305.

Services entrusted to Rogers and Breece Funeral Home.
