John J. “Mike” Bernardo, 82, of 1946 Wexford Road, Palmyra died Saturday February 14, 2015 in the M. S. Hershey Medical Center.
Born in Annville on August 15, 1932, he was the son of the late Dominic and Nellie Frattaroli Bernardo. He served as Executive Vice President of the PA Association of Realtors from 1969 until his retirement in 1994. Prior to that he was the Director of the PA Osteopathic Association from 1959-1964 and was also in the restaurant and bar business in St. Thomas, Virgin Islands from 1964-1966.
John served in the US Army as an aide to Major General Edward A. Walker from 1956-1958 was a 1950 graduate of Annville High School and attended Kutztown University. He was a member of St. Paul the Apostle Church, Annville where he served on the church council and was a member of the Over 50 Club. He was also a member of the Palmyra VFW, Annville American Legion, American and Pennsylvania Association of Executives, and the Annville High School Alumni Association serving as president for two terms. He spent many of his winters in Naples, Florida.
Surviving are two brothers Alfred husband of Doris Bernardo of New Cumberland, Edward husband of Palm Bernardo of Palmyra, three sisters Bonnie Rieker of Cleona, Mary Willman of Annville, Stella Aquiler of Hershey, a sister-in law Joan Bernardo of Annville, nieces and nephews Joseph and Steve Bernardo, Kathleen Minnich, Patrick and Michael Rieker, Louis and Lisa Aquiler, Victoria, Michael, David Bernardo, and Deborah Browne, and a number of great nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by two brothers Albert and Valentino Bernardo.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday at 11:00 AM at St. Paul the Apostle Church, 125 S. Spruce Street, Annville, PA 17003. Interment will be held at the convenience of the family. Visitation will be held on Friday from 10-11 AM prior to the service. Contributions may be made to St. Paul the Apostle Church in his memory.
