He was the oldest son of Adélard Gagné and Rose-Arseline Lemay. He was born and baptized on the same day of October 11th 1903 in the church of St-Désiré, Black Lake, Québec.

He married Lucia Laroche (daughter of Alfred Laroche and Virginie Poulin) on June 30th 1926.

He had two children :
- Joseph Adélard
- Thérèse

Éloi worked well past his retirement as well. Back then, it had a lot to do with their phylosophy of life : Not being lazy people by any means.

He was buried on April 7th 1988.
