John "Shorty" enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1948 and as a Navy Seal and served at ports around the world., A veteran of the Vietnam War he earned numerous citations, including the Bronze Star and Silver Star. Chief "Shorty" Lyons was honorably discharged in 1968 and retired to Cable. There, he enjoyed his love of the outdoors, hunting, trapping and fishing.
John will be remembered as an adoring father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He is survived by his wife, Shirley; his son, Scott, and wife Janet, Lyons of Dixon, Missouri; five grandchildren. Jessica, Ian, Ajay, Shelby and Vicky; two great-grandchildren, Darian and Caitlin; and loving great-niece, Jenny Bowling; and other family and friends.
He was preceded in death by two children, Timm Lyons and Cheryl Johnson.
Per John's wishes, no service will be held.
John was always ready for his next big adventure. We hope his next life is as big as this one was.
