Bryan K. "Keithy" Kennedy of Shelbyville passed away on Tuesday, Sept. 17, 2014 at 2:54 a.m., after an extended illness. Bryan was born on Oct. 8, 1962 in Shelbyville to the late Emily A. Wilson & Charles C. Kennedy. He attended school in Shelby County School System and was known for his athletic abilities as well as an avid U of L sports fan. Bryan was also known for his radiant smile and positive attitude in spite of difficulties throughout his life. Known for his intellect and enthusiasm, "Birdie" as he was kindly called by his close friends and associates was considered a friend to many and willingly extended a helping hand to whom ever needed it. "Keithy" accepted the Lord as his personal savior while attending Shelby Congregational Church and later united with Greater Shiloh Temple Church under the leadership of Pastor Justin Barnes in 2012. As a spirit minded individual, his testimony included how the Lord had brought him through dangers seen and unseen. His faith was strong throughout his extended illness along with the past few years of sorrow, pain, and sickness as well as the sudden and tragic deaths of two of his sons as he endured with tenacity and fortitude. He was predeceased by his maternal and paternal Grandparents, his parents, two sons, Dwayne "Geekie," and Keith O'Brian "Ponch;" two brothers, Dale Adrian and Tyrone; and aunts, Lacy O. Wilson, Edith Grundy, Mary Anna White and Uncle Billy Cowan. Bryan was a man that loved his family and leaves to cherish his precious memories; one cherished son, Deon Kennedy of Louisville; two loving and devoted sisters, Canidy Y. (Thomas) Barnett of Shelbyville and Shauna I Wilson of Louisville. Four beloved brothers, George L. of Simpsonville, James M. and Christopher Wilson of Shelbyville and Zane Harris of Elizabethtown. While Bryan loved all his aunts and uncles he had a special relationship with his aunt, Brenda Wilson of Frankfort and referred to her as his second mother; other aunts, Bernice (Bishop Eric) Barnes, Somerset, Barbara Wilson, Mary (Leon) Benson, Danna Wilson and Eva White all of Louisville and Sylvia (Thomas) Marshall of Shelbyville; three maternal uncles, Sherman Wilson, Greg (Marla) Hunter and Lucian (Kimberly) Hunter all of Shelby County; great-aunts, Margaret Mack and Mary K. Alexander of MD and Pauline Jackson of Louisville, as well as a host of nieces, nephews cousins and friends. Visitation will be Monday from 6 to 9 p.m. at Clay Street Missionary Baptist Church, 1940 Midland Trail, Shelbyville, and after 10 a.m. on Tuesday with funeral to follow at 1 p.m. Pastor Justin Barnes and Bishop Eric Barnes will officiate. The Southern Oaks Funeral Home with Richard New of Somerset is entrusted with the arrangements.
