Henry Christensen Petersen was born September 30, 1889 in Mount Pleasant (1), the tenth child of Fredrick and Ane Madsine Nicoline Larsen Petersen.

As a child Henry worked and played with his brothers and sisters in the family home. One day he was playing with the other youngsters on the school playground and a snow ball hit him in the back of the neck. The effects of this hit were very painful to him for many days. His mother felt that it injured the nerves in some way, and he gradually grew worse, causing him to become very melancholy and depressed. At the time he was twenty-five years of age this condition and disposition grew worse until he had no desire to live.

On the 11th of December 1915 an affidavit signed by his father, with C. N. Lund as notary public, committed him to the State Mental Hospital at Provo where he spent the remainder of his life, with the exception of about a year.

On May 3, 1923 Henry was released to the custody of his brother, Mouritz C. Peterson, with whom he lived and assisted with the chores at home and helped with the haying and other work on the farm. He also helped with the farm work at the farm of his brother-in-law William L. Madsen. During this time he seemed very content and happy and played with Mourtiz's children and showed them a great deal of love and affection. However, in time he grew more depressed and was again taken to the Provo hospital. During the time he was in the hospital he assisted with the work around the grounds and was not a burden to those who took care of him.

His family sent him money at Christmas time and remembered him with clothes and other items they thought he might enjoy. Henry died at the hospital of a heart condition June 20, 1960 at the age of 70 (2). At the time of his death his hair was completely white. During his youth he was of a ruddy complexion and had dark hair and blue eyes.

He was brought to the Ursenbach Mortuary in Mt. Pleasant following his death. Graveside services were held for him at the Mt. Pleasant City Cemetery Wednesday June 22, 1960.

He was baptized October 2, 1897 (3), and endowed February 18, 1966 (4). He never married.
