Our French Canadian Ancestors, by Thomas J. LaForest Vol XI, pg 164, says "Jacques drowned in the Saint Lawrence River, probably at the end of autumn 1712. His body was retrieved the following spring, in the territory of Sorel, where he was buried on 12 June 1713. ... Two Sulpicien missionary priests presided together at the Requim Mass. They were Fathers Louis-Francois De la Faye from Contrecoeur, and Charles De la Gaudalie from the Ile Dupas."
His burial record in the Drouin collection does not specify a death date. It's believed that he died closer to March 1713, when his wife (Catherine Clerice) was legally pronounced guardian of their children. He was buried on 12 June 1713.
